Ever wondered why the screen on a Mac looks so much better? The fonts look rounder, smoother, and the general experience in that of a more polished interface. Well, dears, that's because Mac has anti-aliasing turned on by default, Windows doesn't.

What's anti-aliasing? It's technical so go here to understand.

To turn it on in Windows, do the following:
Control Panel » Display » Appearance » Effects » Check the "Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts:" box and pick ClearType » OK to save.

Sounds stupid like that, but it really does make a huge difference. Beats me why it's not turned on by default in Windows...

Pissed that she was snubbed from the Hermes store, Oprah decided to get back at France by organizing massive riots, in which people's cars would be burned to the ground and widespread unrest would be unleashed on unsuspecting French housewives.

Because she's not that mean, she's planning on promptly doing a massive, live, show at the foot of the Eiffel tower, hand everyone in the audience a little package, and start jumping up and down, screaming "Everybody gets a new car!!!".

At last, Fabrice is out of the closet.. And has considerably beefed up...

I was reading some conservative blogs that, of course, are delighted W chose someone nicknamed "Scalito" and are eager for a fight. Morons.



But I digress. On the site in question was an ad for a Conservative dating web site. I wondered if you could choose Man 4 Man in the search box, you know, or all the closeted Republicans, so I started filling out the lengthy application. But then, on a hunch, I simply checked out the Terms of Use:

2.2 As a condition to use this service you acknowledge that you will not use this service to contact other members for the purpose of homosexual relationships, activities or activism. Openly espousing in a profile as "gay" or any word that delineates homosexuality is also forbidden.

Well, that settles it, don't it? At least they're a little more straight-forward than eHarmony.

Just three random things that are annoying me at this very moment:

• Calling it SCOTUS. It's not a government agency, it's the Supreme Court. Lose the pseudo-acronym.
• Ridiculously ripped gay guys who wear Speedo, the Hulk, Ultimate Fighter "costumes" on Halloween, for the sole purpose of walking around shirtless in public and have the crowds ogle them.
  
• A semi-famous gay blogger who keeps peddling his supposedly über-cool T-Shirts, speaks of the readers that email him stories as his "correspondents", and uses "we think, here at ..." when speaking of his blog.
  

I don't think I'm particularly stupid. I know my way around Chicago pretty well. I can study a map like nobody's business. Then how come I always get lost when I go to IKEA?! Getting there took me 60 minutes, 20 of which were backtracking and turing around...

Anyone else realize she's fourty-seven years old?!

Remember, back in, say, 2002? Bush was invicible. He and Cheney were reigning like Emperors over their docile Republican flock, nothing bad could happen. If one had told you, back then, the week Georgie's just had, you'd never had believed it.

First of course, Harriet's defection. Now W's ass is stuck between a rock and hard place: he goes more conservative, Dems will filibuster, he goes more liberal, his own Party will crucify him.

Then of course, Scoot's lil' indictement. Doesn't look very good for Turd Blossom either.

Add to that the fact that his brother's handling of Wilma is being criticized left and right in the crucially important state of Florida, the Brownie debacle of the last few weeks, Iran going completely nuts, Delay's indictement, and W's having the worst season ever.

The House of Bush is unraveling, just in time for the midterms. Time to move in for the kill.

I take her out, we walk around the block a few times, chase after pigeons, she pees, we go around the block some more, she poops, we go back into the house, I give her a treat, she goes to bed, I go to work.

Dogs have it made.

Interesting surprise today at the massage place. When my therapist led me into the room, I discovered the implement I was going to be placed in and "worked" on. Needless to say, the urge to run away really fast was nearly overwhelming. Therapist boy restrained me and explained he would basically walk on my back for 15 minutes and then proceed with the regular massage.

Well kids, it was amazing. Think of the deepest, most amazing back massage ever, undoing days of stress, but without the pain. Since the pressure is applied with whole feet, it is much more comfortable. And it is still applied with perfect control.

Granted, it is weird, and it took me a few minutes to be cool having a kid walking on top of me, but it was well worth it.

This otherwise adorable kid's first name is Google. That'll teach him to have a PhD candidate as a father.
